| Apollo 13Apollo 13 launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida on April 13, 1970. It was the seventh manned space flight and the third mission planned for the moon. Despite hardship, Apollo 13 returned to earth safely on April 17, 1970. The crew at launch consisted of James A. Lovell, John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise (see Crew page for more details).The fact that so much went wrong but NASA was still able to return the crew safely was a miracle from God. Apollo 13 is one of the most famous NASA missions in the history of space exploration. There has been two movies based on it. In 1974, Houston, We've Got a Problem and was released. In 1995, Apollo 13 based on the book Lost Moon written by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. Apollo 13's return was one of the most famous failures of all time, but it was also one of the finest moments in NASA History. It truly was "the most successful failure of all time."
